At Wonder, we believe everyone should have access to the food they need. Each September, Hunger Action Month brings together people and organizations across the country to raise awareness of hunger and take action to strengthen food access. This year, our team partnered with nonprofits and community organizations across New York City, Chicago and other communities we serve to support local efforts addressing food insecurity.
As part of Hunger Action Month, 150 Wonder team members volunteered with City Harvest in New York City and the Greater Chicago Food Depository in Chicago, supporting their efforts to provide meals and resources to individuals and families facing food insecurity. In New York City, employees packed more than 4,100 bags of apples recovered through City Harvest's food recovery efforts. In Chicago, our team packed more than 13,500 pounds of bread and beans for redistribution through the Greater Chicago Food Depository's network of food banks.
“We are deeply grateful to Wonder for their continued support this Hunger Action Month,” said Kenyatta Skyles, Director of Business Partnerships at City Harvest. “Right now, one in five New Yorkers is facing food insecurity, and with federal cuts to critical food assistance programs continuing to go into effect, we anticipate the need in our city to only worsen. Thanks to our partners like Wonder, we are able to step up and feed even more of our neighbors, so children, seniors, and families all across the five boroughs have access to the nutritious foods they need to thrive.”
“For years, Grubhub has been a valued partner in the movement to end hunger. Through the Full Plate Program, grants made possible by the Grubhub Community Fund, helped food pantries and soup kitchens in our network fund refrigerators, freezers and other capacity-building efforts,” said Jennifer Biehler, Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “We are always energized by their employees who volunteer in our warehouse throughout the year and during Hunger Action Month. As the need for food continues to rise across Chicago and Cook County, we are grateful for Grubhub’s continued generosity and partnership.”
In addition to hands-on volunteerism, Wonder continued its support of longstanding nonprofit partners, including City Harvest, Food Bank For New York City, FoodRecovery.org, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Nourishing Hope, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine and Sharing Excess through the Community Fund*. Through sponsorships, grants and other community investments totaling more than $2 million, including our return as title sponsor of Food Bank For New York City's Hunger Action Month campaign, Wonder helped expand the reach of organizations working to address hunger in the communities we serve.
“Hunger Action Month shines a spotlight on an issue that affects nearly 1.6 million New Yorkers, and we’re honored to have Wonder stand with us,” said Janis Robinson, VP of Institutions and Partnerships at Food Bank For New York City. “Their Community Fund support helps amplify the conversation around food insecurity while providing meaningful resources to fuel our mission. We deeply appreciate their partnership and shared belief that everyone deserves access to nutritious food.”
